duplex stainless steel strips

Duplex Stainless Steel Strips: The Complete FAQ Guide

Duplex stainless steel strips are combination of austenitic and ferritic stainless steel strips, combining many of the beneficial properties of austenitic and ferritic steel strips.

Duplex stainless steel materials get their name from their special two-phase microstructure.

While exact ratios vary by grade, most duplex steels have a structure that is roughly 50-percent austenite and 50-percent ferrite.

In the case of low carbon content, the chromium content is 18% to 28%, and the nickel content is 3% to 10%.

Some duplex stainless steels also contain alloy elements such as Mo, Cu, Nb, Ti, and N, etc.

Duplex stainless steel strips have follow main grades, such as 2304 stainless steel strip, 2205 stainless steel strip, 4501 stainless steel strip and 2507 stainless steel strip.

Duplex stainless steel has developed to the third generation since its birth in the United States in the 1940s.

Its main feature is that the yield strength can reach to 400-550MPa, which is twice that of ordinary stainless steel.

Therefore, materials can be saved and equipment manufacturing costs can be reduced.

In terms of corrosion resistance, especially under the conditions of harsh media environment (such as sea water, high chloride ion content), the pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, stress corrosion and corrosion fatigue resistance of duplex stainless steel are significantly better than ordinary 301 stainless steel strip and 316L stainless steel strip.

What Are The Difference Between 2205 Duplex Stainless Steel Strips And 2507 Duplex Stainless Steel Strips

2205 duplex stainless steel material is a duplex stainless steel composed of 21% chromium, 2.5% molybdenum and 4.5% nickel nitrogen alloy.

2205 duplex stainless steel strip has high strength, good impact toughness and good overall and local stress corrosion resistance.

2507 duplex stainless steel material is a ferritic-austenitic (duplex) stainless steel, which combines many of the most beneficial properties of ferritic steel and austenitic steel.

Difference-Between-2205-Duplex-Stainless-Steel-Strips-And-2507-Duplex-Stainless-steel-Strips

Due to the high content of chromium and molybdenum, the steel has excellent resistance to pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion and uniform corrosion.

The two-way microstructure ensures that the steel has a high resistance to stress corrosion cracking, and the mechanical strength is also high.

2507 stainless steel strip is widely used in the oil and natural gas industry. Such as offshore rock-breaking oil platforms, heat exchanger tubes, water treatment and water supply systems, fire protection systems, water spray systems, water stabilization systems, petrochemical equipment, desalination high-pressure pipes, seawater pipes, machinery and structural parts that require both high strength and high corrosion resistance.

Both 2205 and 2507 are duplex stainless steel materials with one type of ferrite and one half of austenite, which combine the most beneficial properties of ferrite and austenite.

The chemical elements nickel and chromium contained in 2507 are higher than 2205. Therefore, the machine strength of 2507 duplex stainless steel strip’s corrosion resistance is better than that of 2205 stainless steel strip.
