Difference Between 254SMO Stainless Steel Strip And 253MA Stainless Steel Strip

Grade 254 SMO stainless steel strips are premium super austenitic stainless steel with a low carbon content that has been alloyed with molybdenum and nitrogen.

It has exceptional resistance to fatigue uniform corrosion, crevice corrosion stress cracking, and pitting.

The 254SMO stainless steel is also known as UNS S31254 and 1.4547.

Due to its fast work hardening rate and absence of sulfur, stainless steel strips grade 254 SMO are rather difficult to mill; however, using sharp tools, powerful machines, positive feeds, generous amounts of lubricant, and slow speeds tends to produce good machining results.

Strips of stainless steel in grade 253MA combine outstanding high-temperature service qualities with the simplicity of manufacture.

It can perform better in atmospheres including carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur and can withstand oxidation up to 1150 °C.

Grade 253MA stainless steel strip is also known as UNS S30815 and 1.4835 strip.

Compared to grade 310S stainless steel strips and high nickel alloys, 253MA stainless steel strips have a slight advantage in decreasing sulphide atmospheres.

The steel has exceptional oxide stability, high raised temperature strength, and excellent resistance to sigma phase precipitation due to the inclusion of substantial amounts of silicon, nitrogen, and cerium.

Strips of stainless steel of grade 253MA are quite similar to those of grade 309S stainless steel strips. But alloying elements are added to improve the metal’s creep strength and oxidation resistance, especially under cycle conditions.

Grade 253MA stainless steel strips must be machined with sharp tools, slow speeds, and high feed rates, just like other austenitic stainless steels.

This grade contains little sulfur.
