254smo stainless steel strip vs 654smo stainless steel strip

Difference Between 254SMO and 654SMO Stainless Steel Strips

254SMO stainless steel strip and 654SMO stainless steel strip are super austenitic stainless steels. Both of them have their features. But which one should you choose? While both are excellent options, you may prefer one over the other. To select the right option, learn more about what makes each steel unique.

Let’s keep reading.

254smo stainless steel strip

254SMO® stainless steel strip is an austenitic stainless steel strip.

Due to the high molybdenum content, it has extremely high resistance to pitting corrosion and crevice corrosion.

This grade of stainless steel strip was developed and designed for containing halide application such as seawater. 254SMO® is a registered trademark of Outokumpu OYJ.

254SMO® stainless steel strip also has good uniform corrosion resistance especially in acids containing halide. This steel is superior to ordinary stainless steel.

It has good resistance to pitting corrosion (PI≥40) and good stress corrosion resistance under the conditions of sea water application and low-speed erosion.

It is a substitute material for special alloy strips and titanium strips.

What’s more, it has better high temperature resistance and corrosion resistance, which is irreplaceable for 304 stainless steel strip.

In China market, 254SMO stainless steel strips products are produced with many types width and thickness for different usage.

Thickness available: 0.05mm-3.0mm

Width available: 2mm-600mm

And the edge of the strip will be slitted or round.

What is 654SMO Stainless Steel Strip?

654smo stainless steel strip

654SMO® stainless steel strip is a super austenitic stainless steel strip which contains 23% nickel, 25% chromium and 7% molybdenum.

Its corrosion resistance is equivalent to that of the best nickel-base alloys. 654SMO® is a registered trademark of Outokumpu OYJ.

The nitrogen content of 654SMO® stainless steel is twice as high as 254SMO® grade, and its strength is higher than 904L stainless steel strip and 254SMO® stainless steel strip.

654SMO® super austenitic stainless steel strip has very good local corrosion resistance.

It has good pitting corrosion resistance and good stress corrosion resistance under the conditions of sea water, aeration, crevices, and low-speed erosion.
