The material needs to be treated with a solid solution before welding to get rid of oxide scale, oil stains, and other defects.

To achieve a bright metal surface, areas about 25 mm wide near the weld must be polished.

Low heat input is used during welding, and the interlayer temperature is kept below 100 °C. Pre-weld and post-weld heat treating is not necessary when using HASTELLOY X alloy.
